Answers to the most common plumbing questions from homeowners across Bellingham, Mount Vernon, Anacortes, and all of Whatcom and Skagit Counties — from our licensed team.
About LaVergne's Plumbing
Who we are, how long we've been in business, and what makes us different.
Is LaVergne's really family owned?
Yes. LaVergne's Plumbing has been family owned and operated since 1951 — three generations deep. We're not a franchise, not a national chain. Just a local family doing honest plumbing work across Northwest Washington.
Are your plumbers licensed and insured?
Every plumber on our team is Washington state licensed, bonded, and fully insured. Our contractor license number is #LAVERPH798NZ. We carry full liability and workers' compensation coverage.
How long has LaVergne's been in business?
Since 1951 — over 75 years. Three generations of our family have served homeowners and businesses across Whatcom and Skagit Counties. One of the longest-running plumbing companies in the region.
Do you offer warranties on your work?
Yes. Every job is backed by our warranty and our family name. If something isn't right, we come back and make it right — that's the LaVergne's guarantee on every repair and installation.
How do I schedule an appointment?
Call us at 360-685-8098 or use the contact form on our website. We offer same-day and next-day scheduling for most service calls, and 24/7 availability for emergencies.
Do I need to be home during the service call?
For most jobs, yes — we need access to the plumbing and it's best if someone 18 or older is home to authorize work and review the quote. Let us know if you have special circumstances.
What We Do
The types of plumbing work we handle for residential and commercial customers.
What types of plumbing do you handle?
Residential and commercial. Water heaters, drain cleaning, remodels, sewer lines, gas lines, outdoor plumbing, fixture installs, leak detection — if it involves water or gas pipes, we handle it.
Do you do bathroom and kitchen remodels?
Yes. We handle all the plumbing for bathroom and kitchen remodels — moving fixtures, upgrading supply and drain lines, installing new fixtures, and making sure everything meets current code.
Can you replace my water heater?
Absolutely. We install and replace both tank and tankless water heaters. We'll help you choose the right option, provide an upfront quote, and handle the full installation including permits.
Do you handle sewer line problems?
Yes. We use sewer cameras to diagnose the problem, then repair or replace the damaged section. We handle root intrusion, collapsed lines, cracks, and full sewer line replacements.
Do you work on gas lines?
Yes. Our licensed plumbers install, repair, and test gas lines for furnaces, water heaters, stoves, dryers, fireplaces, and outdoor BBQ hookups. Gas work requires proper licensing — we have it.
Can you fix a leaking outdoor faucet?
Yes. We repair and replace hose bibs, including upgrading to frost-proof models for Northwest Washington winters. We also install anti-siphon valves and fix pipe damage behind the wall.
Do you install French drains and yard drainage?
Yes. We design and install French drain systems, catch basins, yard drains, and downspout routing to protect your foundation and eliminate standing water, flooding, and erosion.
Can you run water to my detached shop or barn?
Yes. We trench and run supply lines to detached buildings — shops, barns, ADUs, guest houses. Properly buried below the frost line with shut-off valves and freeze protection.
Do you handle sprinkler system plumbing?
We handle the plumbing side of irrigation: supply line connection, backflow preventer installation, shut-off valve placement, and winterization. We coordinate with irrigation contractors for heads and zones.
Can you plumb an outdoor kitchen?
Yes. Outdoor sink hookups, hot and cold supply runs, waste line connections, BBQ gas line installs, and freeze protection for year-round outdoor cooking setups.
Costs, Quotes & Financing
How our pricing works, what to expect, and your payment options.
Do you give upfront pricing?
Always. We quote the job before starting any work so you know exactly what you're paying. No surprises, no hidden fees, no bait-and-switch. That's been our policy since 1951.
Do you charge for estimates?
We provide upfront pricing on-site for standard service calls. For larger projects requiring site evaluation, we'll let you know in advance if there's a diagnostic fee — always transparent before work begins.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept cash, check, all major credit cards, and debit cards. For larger projects, we also offer financing through Service Finance with 0% interest and fixed-rate plan options.
Do you offer financing for large projects?
Yes. We offer financing through Service Finance (Dealer #330125358). Apply in under 5 minutes, get approved in seconds. Plans include 0% interest for 6 months and 9.99% fixed rate for 120 months.
How much does a typical plumbing repair cost?
Costs vary by job — a faucet repair is different from a sewer line replacement. We always provide an upfront quote on-site before starting, so you know the exact cost with no surprises.
How much does a water heater replacement cost?
Depends on type (tank vs. tankless), size, fuel source, and installation. We provide a detailed upfront quote including the unit, installation, and any necessary code upgrades — before work begins.
How much does a sewer line replacement cost?
Sewer line replacement varies based on length, depth, and access — typically $3,000 to $12,000+. We camera the line first, give you an exact diagnosis, and provide a detailed upfront quote before any digging.
How much does a hose bib replacement cost?
A standard hose bib replacement runs $150 to $350 depending on accessibility and whether a frost-proof upgrade is included. Supply pipe repair behind the wall adds $100–$250. We always quote upfront.
24/7 Emergency Service
What counts as a plumbing emergency and how to reach us fast.
Do you handle plumbing emergencies?
Yes — 24/7 emergency plumbing service for burst pipes, sewer backups, gas leaks, major water leaks, and other urgent situations across our entire service area. Call anytime at 360-685-8098.
What counts as a plumbing emergency?
Burst or flooding pipes, sewer backing up into your home, gas leaks or gas smell, no water to the house, and water heater failing in a way that could cause damage. Not sure? Call us — we'll help you decide.
How fast can you respond to an emergency?
We prioritize emergencies and dispatch as quickly as possible. Response times vary by location and call volume, but we serve all of Whatcom and Skagit Counties and always aim to reach you fast.
Is there an extra charge for emergency calls?
After-hours and emergency calls may carry a different rate than standard service. We'll always tell you what to expect over the phone before dispatching — no surprises when the plumber arrives.
What should I do while waiting for a plumber?
Water leak? Shut off the main water valve — usually near the meter or where supply enters the house. Smell gas? Leave immediately, don't touch electrical switches, and call us from outside.
Where is my main water shut-off valve?
Usually near the water meter at the street, or where the main supply line enters your house — often in the garage, basement, crawlspace, or utility room. If you can't find it, call us and we'll walk you through it.
