New Water Heater Installed Right, to Code, the First Time
Whether you're building a new home, adding a bathroom, finishing a basement, converting from electric to gas, or upgrading to a high efficiency tankless or heat pump system, proper installation is everything. The wrong size unit leaves your family without enough hot water. A bad gas connection creates a carbon monoxide hazard. Incorrect venting causes backdrafting. Missing code requirements fail inspection.
LaVergne's handles complete water heater installation from start to finish, including unit sizing and selection, gas line or electrical work, venting installation, expansion tank and seismic strapping, drain pan placement, permit coordination, and final inspection, serving homeowners and builders throughout Bellingham, Mount Vernon, Anacortes, and surrounding areas.
What to Look for in a Water Heater Installer
A new water heater installation involves gas or electrical work, water supply plumbing, exhaust venting, code compliance, and permit coordination. A bad install causes gas leaks, carbon monoxide exposure, flooding, failed inspections, and voided warranties. Here's what matters.

We walk you through every option, size the unit to your actual demand, explain the upfront cost versus long term savings, and help you make the smartest choice for your home and budget.

No gas line required, simpler installation, lower upfront cost. Best for homes without gas service or where adding a gas line isn't practical.

Endless hot water, 20 to 30 percent energy savings, compact wall mount, 15 to 20 year lifespan. Best for larger households and efficiency minded homeowners.

Why Professional Installation Matters
A water heater installation is one of the most complex single appliance jobs in your home. It combines pressurized water plumbing, gas piping or high voltage electrical, exhaust venting, thermal expansion management, and seismic safety into one project. Every connection must be right.
Licensed plumbers size the unit correctly for your demand, run gas or electrical to code, install proper venting with correct draft, add required expansion tanks and seismic straps, route T&P discharge safely, pull permits, and schedule inspections, giving you a system that's safe, efficient, and built to last.

Water Heater Installation FAQs
Common installation questions answered by our licensed plumbing experts serving Whatcom and Skagit Counties.
How much does a new water heater installation cost?
A new gas or electric tank installation typically runs $1,500 to $3,000 including the unit, all plumbing, gas or electrical work, code requirements, and permits. Tankless installs range from $3,500 to $6,000 depending on gas line sizing and venting. We always provide an upfront written quote.
How long does installation take?
A standard tank install takes 3 to 5 hours. Tankless installations take 5 to 8 hours due to venting, gas line work, and system commissioning. New construction rough in and final set are scheduled in two separate visits coordinated with your builder.
What size water heater do I need?
A 40 gallon tank serves 1 to 2 people, 50 gallon serves 3 to 4, and 75 gallon or tankless serves 5 or more. We size based on your actual peak demand, number of bathrooms, and simultaneous usage patterns, never guesswork.
Do I need a permit for installation?
Yes. Most jurisdictions in Whatcom and Skagit Counties require a plumbing permit for new water heater installations. We handle all permit applications, fee coordination, and inspection scheduling as part of our standard service.
Can you install a tankless where I've never had one?
Yes. We handle first time tankless installations including gas line sizing and routing (or electrical panel upgrades), dedicated venting installation, condensate drain routing, wall mounting, and full system commissioning.
What is included in the installation?
Every installation includes the unit, all supply and return plumbing, gas or electrical hookup, expansion tank, seismic strapping, drain pan (where applicable), T&P discharge routing, thermostat calibration, leak testing, and permit coordination.
Can you install a water heater in my new addition?
Yes. We handle water heater installations for bathroom additions, basement finishes, ADU builds, garage conversions, and any project that adds hot water demand. We coordinate with your general contractor on timing and rough in.
Are there rebates for high efficiency units?
Often yes. Heat pump water heaters and certain high efficiency tankless units qualify for utility rebates and federal tax credits. We help you identify available incentives and provide the documentation you need to claim them.
What areas do you serve?
We install water heaters across all of Whatcom and Skagit Counties including Bellingham, Mount Vernon, Anacortes, Burlington, Sedro Woolley, Ferndale, Lynden, and surrounding areas.
